Hi, I’m Hannah a Youth Worker at the Horbury Breakthrough Youth Project.
I run our youth clubs where young people can get involved in a variety of activities including basketball, rugby, crafts and more. I also lead our Duke of Edinburgh programme, which is something I’m especially passionate about. I first got involved with the project back in 2016, volunteering to support DofE sessions, and I’ve been part of the team ever since. I truly believe in the benefits of the programme, it helps young people build confidence, develop teamwork skills and enjoy the great outdoors.
I’ve worked in a range of roles before this, including home care, activity coordination, research assistance, and social inclusion work all of which have centred around supporting others. What drew me to youth work was the chance to help young people grow into themselves. I believe it’s so important for them to have a safe place to go, where they’re supported by people who genuinely care. I’d describe myself as an open, caring individual who wants every young person to believe in themselves and their potential.
I’ve lived in this part of Yorkshire all my life, although I love escaping to the coast most weekends. I enjoy walking, wild swimming and spending time with my ponies. In my quieter moments, you’ll usually find me exploring nature, reading, or tucked away somewhere listening to a good true crime audiobook.
